Government Shouldn’t Get Involved In Domestic Violence But Should Concentrate On Prison Reforms – Mr Gentry

After Lanre Gentry was released from Kirikiri Prison, for beating up his wife, Mercy Aigbe, he has said that the government should focus on more important issues in Nigerian rather than involving themselves in Domestic Violence. He said he had something to tell the world about his prison life and how it happened and we should “wash” out for his story. He took to Instagram to write:

Like I have said earlier. I have something to tell the world due to my fresh experience at the medium prison, (Kirikiri apapa) but firstly I’ll like to glorify the Almighty God for his grace upon my life… this moment I would say @realmercyaigbe’s effort sending me to jail was another privilege to see, say about all which is going on over there.

I think this place should be a rehabilitation centre and not a dumping ground. 7days and 7night at the medium prison looks like have spent a whole year inn there..y? Just because our government has a lot to do over there and nothing has been done over there… over 3600 prisoners, where we are meant to have just 15000 prisoners. Prisoners are now more or less like beggers.

I have been there not that am being told people die every blessed day.. am here to tell the world to please lets fight this out with our government because I see no reason why tax are being collected and nothing has been produce and provided through all this payment, is it that they’ve forgotten this people are still Nigerian citizens?, If I may ask .government shouldn’t leave what they ought to do and start involving theirselves over (domestic violence)… I won’t say more than this tonight..but more to come every night.I mean no harm to no one but to whom it may concern.

This man is just mentally deranged sha. Government shouldn’t get involved in domestic violence but should concentrate on prison reforms. So Mr Gentry, because you paid bride price for Mercy, you think that you own her and can beat and crack her skull anyhow abi? After all, they did not hustle bride price with you, so why should it be their business how you treat your wife?

Well done sir. You wish that, so that men like you, can finally beat their wives to death and walk free abi? This man is not even sorry for what he did, no sign of remorse at all.

He said his wife “sent him to jail”. Look at how he is saying it like, she just sent him to jail for doing nothing.  I don’t think he realises the gravity of his actions. Apparently, he is not the only one who thinks like this, he just echoed what a lot of people think in their minds. A lot of people on social media have made statements like:

“Ahn, ahn, how can she send the father of her child to jail?”,

“She should remember that he is her husband”

“How can she send her husband to jail”- and all other rubbish that they come up with.

Well, she didn’t send him to jail, His actions sent him to jail. He committed a crime that was enough to send him to jail and I wish a lot of other women would do same instead of suffering in silence and hoping and praying that the man would change.

Dear Mr Lanre Gentry, to answer your question, the Government needs to intervene in domestic Violence because it is the responsibility of the government to protect the life of its citizens. There should be serious consequences for people like you who decide to turn their wives into punching bags. It shouldn’t be treated as a family matter and Government’s involvement is very necessary to protect the victims.

The Nigerian Government needs to step up and treat Domestic Violence as a criminal offence, which it is anyway, so men like you who derive pleasure from beating their wives would think twice before using their hands, and instead would engage in a dialogue, when disagreement arises. I wish the Nigerian Government would strengthen the laws so that domestic violence would be seen as a criminal offence and carry a sentence.

I don’t blame you sha, i blame women for putting up with an ass like you. Another woman is probably at the corner, waiting for you, and will welcome you into her life with open arms.

Anyway like you advised, we are “washing out” for your story..
